Can you Create an amazing Presentation?
As teachers we tend to present regularly to our students. I have found that as I have more experience and grow as a learner that I am starting to share more with my peers and have just started to give presentations to my colleagues too. Now I don’t know if pre-service teachers get more advice these days about how to create presentations, but we certainly didn’t when I studied at University. In the days of digital presentations and collaboration with our audience online, there are so many ways in which we should and could consider our Presentations. Today we had some internal PD with Jolan Martinez, who is a creative…

Movement Composition – Kung Fu fighting….
Kung Fu Fighting from Just Dance on YouTube – an awesome warm up for your kids! Where did this year go? It is already time to begin the final units in PHE and I am excited to get into this Movement Comp unit with my Grade 8’s. The focus for me is on doing less and having time for more content and I am going to do my best to stick to this plan. The Key Concept for me here is Creativity – I read Dominique Dalais’s most recent blog post on his Martial Arts unit and I spoke with my colleague, Asako Clark about how she set up a…

Screencasting Presentation from #ACHPER15
untitled by Andrea Perez CC BY NC This post shares the Workshop notes and links that I gave at the ACHPER 2015 Annual Conference in Adelaide, Australia. When I go to conferences and into people’s workshops, the main focus for me is to try and take something away that I could implement with my classes or my own learning tomorrow. It might be something to use in a class, or in my planning to talk to my department about how we could use this but it boils down to Student Learning and how we can best improve and offer the best learning opportunities to our students. For my Workshop (45mins) the main themes…

When things don’t go to plan…
The Penguins of Madagascar YouTube clip by Dreamworks TV Spring Break and I have had the chance to catch up on many things including movies that my children enjoy. It is challenging to find movies that the whole family will get something out of and keep parents from crying of boredom or just being totally over the hypes of the moment. The scene that I have above is from the Penguins movie where the villain of the movie calls the hero headquarters over Skype, and of course the call doesn’t go to plan. Technology fails a few times based on octopus error. It is funny because of how close to…

Screencasting – state your purpose, find your app!
231 by Jaypeg CC BY NC Screencasting is the ability to narrate an audio (and sometimes a video of yourself too) over your computer or iDevice screen so you can talk and share your screen at the same time. This can be a very valuable tool for sharing feedback or instructions/tutorials with your students. There are many different apps out there that will allow you to screencast. The challenge is choosing the right one that you like and then learning how to use it. I have found that the most important question to answer is: what is the purpose of your screencasts? If the purpose is achieved in under 5 minutes and you don’t need…

PhysEdSummit #1 – It’s a Wrap
Last weekend ago I was so excited to be a part of the PhysEdSummit which was hosted as a series of Google Hangouts late into my Japanese night (breakfast time for USA #Physed folk) by the very amazing Physedagogy team. If you didn’t tune in, don’t panic! You can catch up on the program here and if you want to see my Google Presentation without the Google Hangout session narration, you can see them here. I am planning to do some more PD and watching over the next month. I wanted to share that the progress being made in PE is a great step for those in the profession…

Tracking student Movement – not just a PE teacher’s job
This week three different stimuli have sat with me and they blend into one big issue – a much more sedentary life (which is killing us!) and that everyone needs to play a role in fixing it. Movement education and Wellness are not just the responsibility of the PE teacher or coach in the after school programme, like literacy, we are all responsible for educating our students and sharing best life-long practice! I like to think that I am an active lifestyle person and a good role model. I have my Fitbit on and this week received a new Flex (my One got eaten by the washing machine and…

TeachTechPlay Episode 4.5
Who are your mentors? heroes? who inspires you in your field? I have about 10 #physed people who are on my go-to list and whom I follow avidly on Twitter and regularly email or text with in many different forums. I was delighted to be invited to take part on a special PE episode of Teach Tech Play hosted by Michael Ha and Eleni Kyritsis. The premise of this Google Hangout is to share a tool you use in your classes in 4 minutes. Each presenter shares their tech go-to tool and then there are a few questions to clarify or extend your knowledge and then after each presenter has…
